Privacy notice
Last updated: July 2026.
AskAdil is a free legal-education service built by the MCB AI & Digital team. This notice explains what data we process when you use askadil.org, and who processes it on our behalf. AskAdil is an educational tool, not a law firm, and nothing here is legal advice.
What we collect
- Your questions. We keep aggregated, anonymised logs of the questions asked and answers given — to monitor quality, improve the service, and prevent abuse. These logs are not linked to your identity.
- Your IP address. Used to apply rate limits (anti-abuse) and to detect which UK jurisdiction you are in, so guidance matches the law of your nation. It is not used to identify you or track you.
- Images you upload. If you upload an image for analysis, it is stored temporarily in Cloudflare R2 and analysed to answer your question.
- Report details (only if you use a report tool). If you choose to prepare an incident report, the details you enter — which may include your name, contact details and a description of what happened — are used solely to prepare and send that report to the organisation you select (for example the British Muslim Trust or Tell MAMA). We do not create an account for you and do not use these details for marketing.
What we do NOT do
We do not require accounts to use the chat. We do not sell your data. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not build a profile of you across other websites.
Cookies
We use only strictly-necessary cookies: a login session for the operator console, and a login session for solicitor firms who choose to manage their directory listing. Under UK data-protection rules these are exempt from consent, which is why AskAdil does not show a cookie banner. If you never sign in, no cookies are set.
Analytics
We measure aggregate traffic with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is privacy-first: it sets no cookies, does not fingerprint your device, and collects no personal data — only anonymised, aggregated page statistics. This is why no consent is required for it.
Who processes your data (sub-processors)
We use a small number of reputable providers, under data-processing terms, to run the service:
- Anthropic (Claude) — generates the legal-guidance answers and analyses any images you upload.
- OpenAI — creates text embeddings used to search our UK case-law knowledge base.
- Google (Gemini) — helps rewrite follow-up questions and pre-fill report forms.
- Cloudflare — anti-abuse (Turnstile), temporary image storage (R2), content delivery, and the cookieless Web Analytics above.
- Railway — application hosting.
(Solicitor firms listed in our directory are contacted by email via Twilio SendGrid; that concerns firm contact details from the public SRA register, not people using the chat.)
Solicitor directory
Our directory lists regulated UK solicitors using public information from the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Firms can verify, update or remove their own listing at any time via askadil.org/manage-listing.
Your rights and lawful basis
Our lawful basis is legitimate interest (providing a free public legal-education service) and, for any report you submit, your consent when you choose to send it. You have the right to ask what data we hold, to request correction or erasure, and to object to processing. To exercise any of these, or with any privacy question, contact the MCB privacy team at [email protected].
